چکیده

In all cases section was made with the von Graefe knife and one to three corneoscleral sutures were inserted. Peripheral iridectomy was performed in all except two cases where the iridectomy was complete. Alpha-chymo-trypsin (A.C.T.) 1: 5000 solution was injected through the iridectomy above and posterior to the iris below. After exactly 3 minutes the anterior chamber was irrigated with saline and the lens was removed by traction. In 24 cases the mechanical erisophaket was used, and in eight the capsule forceps (Arruga). Where capsule forceps were employed the lens capsule was gripped above in the 12 o'clock position.

[Intracapsular cataract extraction using alpha-chymotrypsin].

ALPHA-CHYMO-TRYPSIN (A.C.T.) is an enzyme with fibrinolytic and proteolytic properties which is prepared from bovine pancreas. It was discovered by Dr. Joaquin Barraquer in 1957 that the substance had a selective solvent action on the zonule supporting the lens. After extensive animal and postmortem experiments he applied the discovery to the living human eye with important results. He found th...

Crystalline Chymo-trypsin and Chymo-trypsinogen

A new crystalline protein, chymo-trypsinogen, has been isolated from acid extracts of fresh cattle pancreas. This protein is not an enzyme but is transformed by minute amounts of trypsin into an active proteolytic enzyme called chymo-trypsin. The chymo-trypsin has also been obtained in crystalline form. The chymo-trypsinogen cannot be activated by enterokinase, pepsin, inactive trypsin, or calc...

A Method for Determining the Rennet Activity of Chymo-trypsin

The rennet activity of chymo-trypsin (or pepsin) is conveniently measured by allowing a standard solution of milk to which chymotrypsin has been added to flow slowly through a graduated pipette and observing the rate and distance of flow of the milk before it clots. The time required for chymo-trypsin to clot milk may be calculated from these observations. The rennet activity is expressed as th...

The human anterior lens capsule--an attempted chemical debridement of epithelial cells by ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) and trypsin.

The addition of edetic acid (EDTA) or trypsin to the infusion during a simulated extracapsular cataract extraction on cadaver eyes facilitates the removal of lens epithelial cells from the anterior capsule. Modification of the chemical composition of infusions used during extracapsular surgery may maximise lens epithelial cell removal and hence reduce the incidence of opacification of the poste...

Treatment of ophidism-induced bilateral canine cataract by extracapsular lens extraction and intraocular lens implantation

The aim of this study was to report a new cause of cataract, namely snake bite induced cataract in a dog. A 3-year-old male mongrel dog was referred to our clinic for the assessment of cataract in both eyes. The dog was bitten by a snake nearly 4 months ago. A 40 dioptre acrylic lens with 13 mm haptics was implanted into the lens capsule. In the left eye, posterior synechia was detected in the ...
